Health & PE Curriculum

As many of you are aware, the state of New Jersey recently passed new curriculum standards for health and physical education.  These standards are reflected in the proposed curriculum documents attached.  As a district, we are acutely aware of the concerns many parents have expressed regarding changes to the curriculum related to the teaching of health.  We certainly understand those concerns and assure you that we are implementing the curriculum in a way that honors the decisions of individual families and students without sacrificing the critical objective of making sure that all members of our community are treated with dignity and respect. Our primary goal in teaching health and physical education is to provide students with the tools to make healthy decisions and become healthy adults.

The Department of Education gives us the flexibility and autonomy to implement these standards in a manner that is consistent with the climate of our community.  There will be portions of the curriculum where we will send the information home to parents to discuss with their children at their discretion.  Any parent can choose to remove their child from any portion of the health curriculum and notice will be given prior to the teaching of each unit of study.

We take great pride in the relationship that we have with our parents and community.  In implementing these changes, we will continue to work hard to maintain that partnership.  If you have any specific questions, please reach out to either principal.  | October 2022
